Fos Ilaron – O Gladsome Light

O gladsome light of holy glory of the immortal Father heavenly and holy blessed Jesus Christ; now that we have come to the setting of the sun and see the light of evening: we praise Father Son and Holy Spirit God. It is worthy at all times to praise You with voices of joy Son of God and Giver of life: therefore the world does glorify You.

  1. The chanting of O Gladsome Light is my favorite part of Vespers. Its so beautiful to see the rays of the setting sun illuminating the icons as we sing this hymn that has been sung by Orthodox Christians for 1800 years. I love how the lights are dim and then by the end of the Fos Ilaron the church is filled with light.
